UA Little Rock game creators raise more than $27K to manufacture game

A group of University of Arkansas at Little Rock employees, students, and alumni who created a space-western storytelling card game - dubbed Galactic Scoundrels - have reached their online fundraising goal to raise enough money to have the game manufactured, breaking their fundraising goal by more than $10,000.

Warren places fourth at Canadian amateur championship

Little Rock senior Justin Warren had quite the impressive week in Western Canada, finishing fourth among a field of 246 golfers at the 2018 Canadian Men's Amateur Championship. Warren posted a 72-hole total of 11-under 273, finishing seven strokes off the lead.

Little Rock sophomore guard Jaizec Lottie is one of 21 players at the Division I level selected to take part in a 2018 Global Sports Academy tour through Europe. The week-long tour, took place Aug. 10-17, will visit Brussels, Antwerp, Amsterdam and London.

Three soccer players named to Sun Belt Preseason All-Conference team

Three members of the Trojan soccer team were named to the Sun Belt Preseason All-Conference team, while the soccer team was also picked to finish fourth in the conference standings. Due to their stellar seasons in 2017, senior forward Arola Aparicio Gili, senior defender Liesa Seifert and junior midfielder Doro Greulich earned recognition on the Sun Belt Preseason All-Conference team.

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock baseball team has earned the Team Academic Excellence Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association. The Trojans were one of only 50 schools at the Division I level to earn the recognition and one of just two Sun Belt Conference programs among the list.

UA Little Rock announces its spring 2018 Chancellor's List, recognizing students with superior academic performance in a semester. To be eligible for the Chancellor's List, students must be enrolled in at least nine credit hours and earn at least a 3.9 grade point average. Students must not have D, F, I or "no credit" grades on their semester grade reports.

A student who completes 300 hours of public service during a 12-month period in which the student is in good standing at UA Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law will be awarded a Dean's Certificate of Service. The goal of the program is to make students more aware of community service opportunities and encourage students to make service a part of their professional lives.

UA Little Rock students investigate migrant crisis in Europe

A group of University of Arkansas at Little Rock students saw firsthand how the growing migrant crisis has changed Europe in recent years. Dr. Rebecca Glazier and Dr. Christopher Williams, professors in the UA Little Rock School of Public Affairs, led 10 students to Europe June 4-20, where they visited London, Paris, and Berlin to learn more about the challenges Europe faces in light of the migrant crisis.

Social bots disrupt online communication about natural disasters

Researchers at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock are studying how social bots influence the delivery of news via social media during major disasters. The study examines the role of social bots - automated Twitter accounts that attempt to affect or influence the behaviors of others - and their coordination and communication patterns with complex organizational structures to disseminate information during four natural disasters that occurred in 2017.

UA Little Rock students compete in university's first human powered vehicle challenge

A team of systems engineering students at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock has gone where no UA Little Rock students have gone before by participating in the Human Powered Vehicle Challenge. For their senior design and capstone project, Team Captain Hugh Benfer, Nathanael Menhinick, Cameron Palmer, Jason Reed, and Shelby Wingate designed and built the university's first human powered vehicle. Dr. Jin Lee, professor of systems engineering, and Dr. Samer Yahya, visiting scholar of systems engineering, served as the team's faculty advisors.

A group of University of Arkansas at Little Rock employees, students, and alumni have joined forces to create a game to bring out the space scoundrels in all of us. The space-western storytelling card game - dubbed Galactic Scoundrels - is inspired by beloved fictional scoundrels like Han Solo from "Star Wars" and Malcolm Reynolds from "Firefly."

Taemora Williams wins scholarship to intern abroad

Taemora Williams plans to improve her language skills and gain professional experience by interning at a nonprofit organization promoting children's film in Valencia, Spain, this summer. To help pay for the trip, Williams received a scholarship from the Fund for Education Abroad. The fund contains 100 scholarships totaling $335,000, which are awarded to U.S. students who are consistently underrepresented in study abroad programs. The students come from a variety of racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. The 2018 Fund for Education Abroad winners were selected from a pool of over 2,300 applicants from 517 colleges and universities across the country.
