UA Little Rock Students Create New Art Mural
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has unveiled a colorful and fun new student-led mural that is meant to bring inspiration to the university's art students. The mural was revealed to the public May 6. It is located in the artWING living and learning community, an area of West Hall that houses art majors.

UA Little Rock Hosts Exhibit Exploring Poet William Blake's Views on Femininity and Masculinity
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock will host an exhibit that explores William Blake's, the English poet, painter, and printmaker, views on femininity and masculinity. The exhibit, "Jordan Hancock: William Blake and the Fallen Binary," will be on display from Monday, May 16, to Thursday, May 26, the Maners/Pappas Gallery in the Windgate Center of Art and Design.

RAMIREZ CHOSEN FOR COMPETITIVE MASTERCLASS AT SOUTHWEST AMERICAN CHORAL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION
A UA Little Rock student was one of six undergraduate student conductors selected from seven states to participate in a prestigious undergraduate masterclass at the 2022 Southwestern American Choral Directors Association. Carmen Ramirez, a senior from Columbia, Missouri, was chosen out of a large pool of applicants for the Student Conducting Masterclass, which took place March 1 at the Little Rock Marriott.

UA Little Rock Students Create New Art Mural
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has unveiled a beautiful new art mural designed to bring inspiration to the students living in UA Little Rock's newest living and learning community for art students. The new mural, "Hive Mosaic," was unveiled May 2. It is located at the entrance of the artWING living and learning community in West Hall and is meant to serve as inspiration for the art students who live there. The mural was created by Painting Professor Ricky Sikes and six artWING residents: Madison Heiderscheidt, Cecilia Ilg, Sunny Jenkins, Antonio Keyes, Gabriel Watson, and Hollee Wadley.

UA Little Rock Dedicates New Student Mural
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock dedicated a new student mural in the lobby of Ottenheimer Library during a ceremony on May 11. The new mural, entitled "Koi," is eight feet wide and 16 feet long. Emma Chambers, the student artist who created the mural, hopes the peaceful painting of fish swimming in a koi pond will bring a sense of calm and tranquility to all who see it.

University of Arkansas at Little Rock students competed in the John Cauble One Act Play Reading Series, performing a play called, "Prisoners," at Abilene Texas Convention Center on Feb. 24. The Kerry Kennedy Aspiring Playwright Foundation Fund paid for the students' travel to the festival.

UA Little Rock students conduct performance of 'Eurydice'
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Department of Theatre Arts and Dance showcased its fall production of "Eurydice" Oct. 16-20 in the Haislip Theatre in the Center for Performing Arts. "Eurydice" is a postmodern retelling of the classical myth of the legendary Greek hero, Orpheus, from the perspective of his beloved Eurydice. The young couple's time together is cut short when Eurydice is killed on their wedding day. Her journey to the Underworld and Orpheus' subsequent pursuit to reclaim her has been celebrated in art and music for centuries.

UA Little Rock Student Explores 'Theater of Cruelty'
UA Little Rock theater major Selena Gordon has performed in musicals, plays, and even national films, but this semester she worked to create a performance of a different kind - one meant to awaken her audiences' unexpressed emotions. Gordon spent this semester creating "Wake-up!" - a performance that uses overbearing sensory aspects, such as lights, sound, and gestures to stir emotions. "I wanted to make the audience confront issues that society tends to shy away from or ignore because they're too difficult to talk about," she said. "Such things include racism, sexual assault, gun control, mental illness, abuse, discrimination in all of its forms, and the political state of the country today."

UA Little Rock students present Collision! Bodyworks 2019
The University of Arkansas Little Rock Department of Theatre Arts and Dance and Ballet Arkansas held its first-ever combined dance concert April 25-28. This event is the launch of the partnership between the UA Little Rock dance program and Ballet Arkansas. The university's annual spring Bodyworks concert showcases choreography by dance faculty and Ballet Arkansas company member Deanna Stanton. A special highlight of the concert was the premiere of "Collision," choreographed by Ballet Arkansas Executive Director Michael Fothergill and performed by UA Little Rock students and Ballet Arkansas company members.

Harper Cast in New York Shakespeare Company
UA Little Rock theater major Keith Harper has learned that an acting career requires both talent and extensive networking. Through the UA Little Rock Department of Theatre Arts, he has developed both. This summer, Harper heads to Silver Lake, New York, where he will spend six weeks performing in Shake on the Lake's production of Shakespeare's "As You Like It." The acting company performs classic Shakespeare throughout western New York.

UA Little Rock Community Orchestra presents fall concert
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Community Orchestra presented its fall concert on Dec. 2 in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall in the UA Little Rock Fine Arts Building. The Community Orchestra, directed by Dr. Victor Ellsworth, performed "Overture to Rouslane and Ludmila" by Mikhail Glinka, Franz Schubert's Unfinished Symphony No. 8 in B minor, Sinfonia in D for two Horns and Strings by Leopold Mozart, Concerto Grosso No. 8 by Arangelo Corelli, and Symphony No. 104 by Joseph Haydin.

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Wind Ensemble presented its fall concert, "Under Cover of Night," Nov. 30 in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall in the UA Little Rock Fine Arts Building. Dr. Ken Goff directs the Wind Ensemble, while David Burkhalter served as the concert's student conductor. The Wind Ensemble performed "Antithigram for Band" by Jack Stamp, "Salvation is Created" by Tschesnokoff, "The Thunderer" by John Philip Sousa, and "Under Cover of Night... Into the Light of Day" by Stephen Mtlillo.
