UA Little Rock Historians Win Lucille Westbrook Award from Arkansas Historical Association
A group of historians from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock have won the Lucille Westbrook Award from the Arkansas Historical Association for the best article manuscript on an aspect of local Arkansas history. Dr. John Kirk, George W. Donaghey Distinguished Professor of History, co-wrote the paper with his students in the Seminar in Public History class, a capstone course that focuses on collaborative research for students who are earning a Master of Arts in public history at UA Little Rock.

UA Little Rock Hosts Exhibit Exploring Poet William Blake's Views on Femininity and Masculinity
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock will host an exhibit that explores William Blake's, the English poet, painter, and printmaker, views on femininity and masculinity. The exhibit, "Jordan Hancock: William Blake and the Fallen Binary," will be on display from Monday, May 16, to Thursday, May 26, the Maners/Pappas Gallery in the Windgate Center of Art and Design.

UA Little Rock Students Create New Art Mural
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has unveiled a beautiful new art mural designed to bring inspiration to the students living in UA Little Rock's newest living and learning community for art students. The new mural, "Hive Mosaic," was unveiled May 2. It is located at the entrance of the artWING living and learning community in West Hall and is meant to serve as inspiration for the art students who live there. The mural was created by Painting Professor Ricky Sikes and six artWING residents: Madison Heiderscheidt, Cecilia Ilg, Sunny Jenkins, Antonio Keyes, Gabriel Watson, and Hollee Wadley.

UA Little Rock Announces Winners of 2022 Student Research and Creative Works Expo Winners
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has announced the winners of the 2022 Student Research and Creative Works Expo. This year's event took place outside between the Ottenheimer Library and the Cooper Fountain on April 8. It was the first in-person student expo that UA Little Rock has hosted in three years.

Mustafa Alassad has graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock with a Ph.D. in systems engineering. The hardworking international student also serves as vice president of operations and strategic growth at Gas POS Inc, which provides a point-of-sale system for gas stations and truck stops across the country. His background includes operational research and the protection of infrastructure networks from malicious attacks.

Law Enforcement Officer Plans to Give Back to the Next Generation of Criminal Justice Students
Justin Williams, a longtime law enforcement officer, is working toward his goal of completing his college education at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. "Justin is a non-traditional student who decided to pursue higher education after 11 years of service as a police officer in Pine Bluff," said Dr. Tusty ten Bensel, director of the School of Criminal Justice and Criminology at UA Little Rock. "His interest in criminal justice comes from his years of being a police officer, both municipal, and state. Justin is energetic, full of drive, and has a passion for teaching students" A law enforcement officer with 14 years of experience as a police officer and state trooper, Williams is well on his way to making the jump from police officer to professor. With just two courses left over the summer to complete his bachelor's degree, he will begin the master's degree program in criminal justice during the fall semester.

Graduate Finds New Love for Astrophysics Research at UA Little Rock
Meagan Herbold, who will graduate in May, chose the University of Arkansas at Little Rock because she wanted to stay close to home and save money for graduate school. She ended up finding a tremendously supportive campus community as she pursued her undergraduate degree in physics. "It provided a solid academic foundation for further education, as well as a kind, supportive, and engaging physics department that genuinely cares about its students and allows them to engage in undergraduate research at every willing opportunity," she said.

Shukla Named 2022 Whitbeck Memorial Award Winner at UA Little Rock
Tripti Shukla, a double major from Little Rock, has been named the winner of the 2022 Edward L. Whitbeck Memorial Award at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Frank L. and Beverly Whitbeck established the award in memory of their son, Edward Lynn Whitbeck, who was a senior at Little Rock University, the predecessor of UA Little Rock, at the time of his death in 1965. Each scholar receives a personalized plaque and a monetary award.

As a private duty nurse, Shannon Marlar has a very special role providing healthcare to those who can't leave their home. Marlar, a single mother of two from Sparkman, Arkansas, serves many important roles - a healthcare provider, a caregiver, and a shoulder to cry on for family members. Marlar has overcome incredible odds to fulfill her dream of earning her bachelor's degree in nursing. She will graduate May 14 at UA Little Rock's Jack Stephens Center. She is going to use her expertise to open up a new business that will provide at-home medical care for people who are homebound.
