UA Little Rock Student Writes Grant to Help Fund Suicide Prevention Programs in Arkansas Jails
A UA Little Rock student has written a successful grant that will help fund a pilot suicide prevention education program in Arkansas jails. Kristina Johnson, a graduate student in professional and technical writing, wrote the grant on behalf of the Arkansas chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP-AR). The nonprofit received a $10,000 grant from the Roy and Christine Sturgis Trust to supplement funding for a pilot suicide prevention education program in two Arkansas county jails. Bank of America is the sole trustee of the Roy and Christine Sturgis Trust.

Neel Awarded Inaugural Grant from Rutherford Endowment to Create Oral History of Ralph Bunche Community
A UA Little Rock student is one of four students selected across the University of Arkansas System who is an inaugural recipient of a grant honoring James L. "Skip" Rutherford III, dean emeritus of the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service. Brian Neel, a Pine Bluff native who is pursuing a master's degree in history, will use his $1,000 grant to fund research on the Ralph Bunche community, a predominantly Black neighborhood in Benton. Funds will help pay for his equipment and travel for the oral history project, which will explore the impact of segregation and desegregation on the community.

Anton Albers Named CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-American
UA Little Rock senior golfer Anton Albers has added one more honor to his incredible 2021-22 season, being named a second team CoSIDA Academic All-American in the men's at-large category. The honor brings another accolade to a historic year for both Albers and the Little Rock golf program as he has been named the Sun Belt Golfer of the Year, a first team PING All-Region selection and an honorable mention All-American by GCAA. Albers was a first team Academic All-District selection as well, paving the way for his Academic All-America honors. He becomes the first player in the department's history to be named conference Player of the Year, All-Region, All-American and Academic All-American in the same season.
