UA Little Rock Student Wins Legal Writing Contest for Exploration of Jock Taxes During COVID-19
A University of Arkansas at Little Rock student has placed second in a national legal writing competition for her paper that explores the increasing complications of taxing professional athletes during the pandemic. Aleigha Smith, a senior accounting major and Donaghey Scholar from Cabot, received the second place award in legal writing from the Academy of Legal Studies in Business. Dr. Casey Carder Rockwell, assistant professor of marketing and advertising, mentored Smith.

Laura Jansen Named to Preseason All-Sun Belt Team
Little Rock senior Laura Jansen was named to the Sun Belt's 2021 Preseason All-Conference team as the league's preseason honors and coaches poll was announced Tuesday. Jansen received the nod after claiming first team all-conference honors and all-tournament accolades last season after guiding the Trojans to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Tournament.

UA Little Rock's Laura Jansen and Alyssa Nayar were named to the Arkansas Classic All-Tournament Team Aug. 29, with Jansen claiming Most Valuable Player honors, after the duo led the Trojans to a tournament title and upset win over the host Razorbacks.

UA Little Rock Student is Coordinating Living History Program at National Museum of the Pacific War
A University of Arkansas at Little Rock public history student has begun a new career running a living history program at the National Museum of the Pacific War, which provides the nation's most comprehensive account of World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific theater. Aaron Shuman, a native of Graham, Washington, recently moved to Fredericksburg, Texas, to start his new job as the museum experience coordinator at the museum, which preserves and exhibits the material history of the war in the Pacific and Indo-China during World War II.

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is excited to welcome 25 new and talented students to the Donaghey Scholars Honors Program for the 2021-2022 academic year. Donaghey Scholars represent the best and brightest at UA Little Rock. They receive a financial package that includes full tuition and fees, a stipend, financial assistance to study abroad, a housing subsidy, and a new laptop. The program is run by Dr. Simon Hawkins, director, and Dr. Jessica Scott, associate director.

UA Little Rock's efforts in the classroom have paid off once again as the Trojans have been named to the 2020-21 Women's Golf Coaches Association All-Scholar Team, consisting of the top-25 teams with the highest cumulative team GPA. UA Little Rock's team GPA of 3.917 ranks fifth nationally as the Trojans are one of two Sun Belt teams among the nation's top five.

Johnson Explores Economic Impact on Towns Featured in 'Small Business Revolution'
Josiah Johnson, a senior finance and economics major from Sherwood, is researching the impact on small towns that have been nominated for and featured on the TV show "Small Business Revolution." In the TV show, an ultimate prize of $500,000 is awarded to a small town for revitalization efforts. The prize is allocated primarily to six business ventures in each winning town to renovate stores and storefronts, improve marketing strategies, and establish a brand for each small business and town.

UA Little Rock Student Shares Love of Robotics with "Star Wars" Inspired Microdroids
One University of Arkansas at Little Rock student is hoping his series of microdroids inspired by a galaxy far, far away will inspire other students to get interested in STEM education. Alejandro "Alex" Alvarez-Barreiro, a junior double major in mechanical engineering technology and Spanish, received a UA Little Rock Signature Experience Award to build microdroids inspired by the "Star Wars" Universe.

Alexandria Brown, a senior mass communication major at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, has been honored for her work with the very first story she ever made for UA Little Rock Public Radio. Brown, who reports and hosts "All Things Considered" and "Weekend Edition" for KUAR, received third place honors in the Features, Broadcast category for her story, "As Judge Considers Challenge To Early Census Deadline, Arkansas Officials Consider Impact."
