Matamoros named to Sun Belt All-Conference team
University of Arkansas at Little Rock freshman Christian Matamoros was named to the Sun Belt league's all-conference team on March 5. A second team honoree, Matamoros finished second in the high jump after clearing a height of 6-11 (2.11m) to set a new UA Little Rock record. The El Paso, Texas, native spent most of the indoor season rewriting the high jump record book for the Little Rock Trojans.

Johnson earns All-Sun Belt Honors
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock claimed a number of Sun Belt conference postseason honors, announced March 5 by the Sun Belt office. Kamani Johnson picks up his first All-Sun Belt career honor, earning third team honors as he has become one of the league's top interior players. Johnson ranks fifth in the Sun Belt in rebounds per game (6.7) and is second in offensive rebounds (3.0), averaging 12.5 points and 6.3 rebounds during Sun Belt action. A two-time Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, the Brooklyn, New York, native scored in double figures 15 times in 2019-20, including 12 in league play with high games of 32, 30 and 24 points. In addition to his presence inside, Johnson has been a staple for Little Rock at the free throw line where he ranks 18th nationally in free throw attempts (198) and 25th in free throws made (144). Johnson is shooting 72.7% from the line, an improvement of nearly 22 percentage points from his freshman campaign when he shot 50.8%.

Nowell earns Sun Belt Honors
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock claimed a number of Sun Belt conference postseason honors, announced March 5 by the Sun Belt office. Markquis Nowell has been Little Rock's floor general in 2019-20, at times carrying the team on his back. He ranks in the top-three in the Sun Belt in six statistical categories, leading the league in free throw percentage (87.9%) and three pointers per game (2.8) while sitting second in assists (4.9) and third in scoring (17.2), steals (2.2) and three point field goal percentage (39.1%). A three-time Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, the Harlem, New York native also ranks among the top-50 nationally in five statistical categories, including sitting 18th in steals per game (2.21), 21st in total steals (62) and 27th in free throw percentage. He has scored 20 or more points 12 times on the year, including games of 33 and 32 points in Sun Belt play, and is the Trojans' active career scoring leader at 749 points in two seasons.

Kale Emshoff garners Sun Belt Hitter of the Week honors
University of Arkansas at Little Rock junior catcher Kale Emshoff of Robstown, Texas, has been named the Sun Belt Conference Hitter of the Week, announced Feb.25 by the league office. It is the first conference weekly honor for Emshoff and the first for the Trojans in 2020. Emshoff had a strong week in helping lead Little Rock to a 4-1 record, going 9-for-17 for a .529 average with a pair of home runs and six RBI. The junior's week was highlighted by a 4-for-4 effort in in the win over Nicholls Friday night, belting a pair of home runs, including the game-winning two run blast in the top of the 10th. Emshoff's efforts over the past five games resulted in an .882 slugging percentage and a .636 on base percentage, drawing five walks.

Garcia beats school record at Wendy's Pittsburg State Invitational Feb. 1
The streak continues. University of Arkansas at Little Rock student-athletes have broken a school record in every indoor meet the Trojans have competed this season and the team's Feb. 1 trip to the Wendy's Pittsburg State Invitational was no exception. This time the records came in the men's high jump, women's pole vault, and women's 600m. Ariana Garcia ran 1:39.05 in the 600m to break a record originally set by Elisa Suarez in 1996.

The streak continues. University of Arkansas at Little Rock student-athletes have broken a school record in every indoor meet the Trojans have competed this season and the team's Feb. 1 trip to the Wendy's Pittsburg State Invitational was no exception. This time the records came in the men's high jump, women's pole vault, and women's 600m. Christian Matamoros topped a high jump record set 22 years ago. The freshman cleared a height of 6-9.5 (2.07m) on Feb. 1 to best a long-standing record originally set by James Lundberg in 1998 as he finished fourth in the event.
