Clifford Haney take home awards during Phi Beta Lambda annual state leadership conference

2018 May 10

Clifford Haney of Maumelle, AR, was among a group of Phi Beta Lambda members from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock to receive an award during the organization's annual state leadership conference April 6-7.

The state conference was held in North Little Rock, where Phi Beta Lambda members met to network and attend workshops on leadership development, community service, and additional topics. Participating members also competed in over 55 events for a chance to represent Arkansas at the national leadership conference.

Haney won first place in the job interview competition.

The students who received first, second, or third place in their respective categories will represent the university in those categories during the national competition in Baltimore, Maryland, June 23-26.

"Competing at the national level requires twice the effort, because during nationals, winners from each state compete, so it's the best against the best," said Shibani Lal, president of the UA Little Rock Phi Beta Lambda chapter. "Students will also have the opportunity to meet and network with other members from across the state, attend workshops, and earn recognition in their chosen competitive events."

Along with individual awards, the UA Little Rock Phi Beta Lambda chapter was awarded first place for the largest local chapter membership percentage increase, which grew by 150 percent. The chapter grew from 11 to 40 members in less than a year. The chapter also won fourth place for the largest local chapter membership.

"These achievements allow current members to stay motivated to compete in future events," said Lal. "For future members, these achievements inspire them to participate in the organization."

Dr. Casey Rockwell, assistant professor of marketing, and Sarah Clements, business information systems instructor, both serve as the organization's faculty advisors.
